Moms are some of the greatest people on the planet. I ought to know--I am one. One of the best things about being a mom is the never ending challenge to your ability to fix/create/make/invent stuff out of practically nothing.
Junior needs that plastic doodad fixed? No problem-just whip out the glue gun and it's good as new. Darling daughter needs cupcakes for a class party tomorrow? Out comes that spare cake mix you stashed in the pantry. Toddler needs something new to occupy him while you talk to YOUR mom? All those empty toilet paper rolls you saved can suddenly be put to good use.
State of Mind
Being a do-it-yourself mom is mostly a state of mind and attitude. It's about believing that you CAN do it. It's about thinking ahead. It's about seeing a great idea and figuring out how you could do it YOURSELF.
Instead of buying a craft kit, you look at the picture on the cover and say, "I could make one of those." Instead of buying a set of flashcards for your child, you make some out of index cards. When the water flow from the faucet slows down, you don't call the plumber, you replace the aerator yourself.
What Kind of Mom?
Don't get me wrong--I'm not talking about being a super-mom, I'm talking about being a competent mom. I'm talking about that deep-down satisfaction that comes from being able to say "I did it myself!" That's what this site is all about--being a competent, do-it-yourself kind of mom.
